7 Days of the 101 Best Halloween Songs (42-51)

42. Superstition
Recognizable by its opening drum beat, Superstition has become Stevie Wonder’s signature song. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and on the soul singles chart in 1972. Wonder has performed this song live on Sesame Street and Soul Train, among many other places.

43. (Ghost) Riders in the Sky
This song has been covered by over 50 performers, including
Johnny Cash and The Outlaws. It was the inspiration for Marvel Comics character, Ghost Rider. It was also performed in Blues Brothers 2000, in a scene similar to that of Rawhide in the first film.

44. Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough
This was a single from The Goonies. The music video included 2 parts; the first debuting before the movie opened in theaters and the second after it opened. The music video featured The Goonies cast, a ton of pro-wrestlers, Steven Spielberg, and Roseanne Barr.

45. I Want Candy
This song was originally recorded by The Strangeloves in 1965, hitting #11 in the U.S. It rehit the charts several times when it was covered by Bow Wow Wow, Aaron Carter, and Spice Girl Melanie C (for the movie I Want Candy starring Carmen Electra).

46. Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead
In a famous scene from The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy’s house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East and the Munchkins celebrate by singing this song. Well..actually they didn’t sing it; it was by uncredited singers with their voices sped up.

47. Over at the Frankenstein Place
This is the third song from the motion picture, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the musical, The Rocky Horror Show. It was apparently sung in the rain, but for some reason, I don’t hear any rain splatters in the background.

48. Rentaghost
This is the opening theme song to the British children’s comedy show of the same name. The show ran from 1976-84 and was about a firm called Rentaghost that rented out ghosts for different tasks. It’s super lame, but in a corny sorta way, which therefore makes it awesome.

49. She Blinded Me with Science
This was performed by British musician Thomas Dolby. In Britain, the phrase “to blind [someone] with science” means to confuse them with knowledge, as in a highly complex math problem. However, in the music video, it’s more of a reference to the natural sciences.

50. Cat Scratch Fever
Best known for its signature riff, Cat Scratch Fever is one of the greatest hard rock songs of all time, ranking 32nd on VH1’s list. It is the theme song for the San Jose Sabercats, but is also used by the Detroit Tigers at the beginning of their games.

51. Count Duckula
This is the theme song to the British animated series of the same name, which is a spin-off of Danger Mouse. Count Duckula parodies the story of Count Dracula in that he lives in Transylvania, inside a spooky castle.

Check back tomorrow for 32-41.
